| Our History
Delta Cedar Products was incorporated in 1947 employing seven men. The primary product manufactured at that time was Douglas fir railroad ties for the C.N.R. The Company was then contracted to produce fir cross arms for hydro poles. The cross arms were dressed, cut to length, drilled with attachment and insulator pin holes and shipped in finished form.
In 1960 Delta Cedar took a change of direction by cutting Yellow and Red Cedar. Delta found an early market niche by introducing Yellow Cedar roof decking for municipal swimming pools and curling rinks while pioneering the development of clear Red and Yellow Cedar paneling. Other early uses of Yellow Cedar were industrial wooden ladders and fresh fish boxes.
In addition to the decorative uses for Yellow Cedar, and because of its natural resistance to decay, abrasion and its superior strength, Delta developed a market for an "industrial" grade of Yellow Cedar. A wide range of uses in such areas as the docks of Los Angeles and New Westminster, as well as the stadium seats for the then new Rose Bowl in Pasadena developed for Yellow Cedar.

In 1964 Delta built its first primary sawmill designed to cut specialty sizes for its customers rather than high volumes of lumber. During the 1970's three new kilns were added. Sunbury Cedar was also started at this time allowing Delta the opportunity to sell direct to the public.
In the early 1980's the largest expansion took place resulting in a sophisticated finished and semi-finished multi-product manufacturing division. This included three planers, resaws, multi-purpose paneling and chop lines. A further expansion took place in 1990 and 1991 with the addition of two new dry kilns, new headrig bunks with computerized set works and kerf saws.
The acquisition of a trucking company allowed delivery of its products to Delta customers.
The growth in Sunbury Cedar has included the addition of a custom shop and manufacturing division of its own, producing fence panels, lattice screens, pre-cut storage sheds, gazebo kits, play structures, as well as a furniture department.
